Valorant: Ranked mode – release, ranks and info

In Valorant’s beta, players already could play the Ranked mode. However, it is not playable from the start of the release. When does the Ranked mode start and how does it actually work? We will explain this to you in the following guide.

How does the ranked mode work in Valorant?

How many matches do you need to unlock Ranked mode?

To unlock the competitive ranked mode, you need 20 unracked matches. It doesn’t matter whether you win or lose it. You just have to complete it. Victories and defeats have no effect on your rank once you have unlocked ranked mode.

How many matches do you need to be ranked?

In order to get your first rank and to be classified, you have to complete 5 placement matches. Your performance within the games determines your first rank in ranked mode.

Overview of all ranks in ranked mode

There are a total of 8 ranks in Valorant and each tier, with the exception of the highest rank “Radiant”, also has three tiers. Each level has its own badge, so there are a total of 22 different badges. The 8 ranks look like this:

  • Iron
  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • Diamond
  • Immortal
  • Radiant

How does the ranked mode work?

According to Riot Games, winning matches is the most important factor in getting ranked. However, your individual performance will also be assessed. Of course, there will be also Valorant boosting service so there will be also boosted accounts that cheat the system. But in general, you just have to play well as a team, have a good k/d and most important win your games. As soon as you are classified, you only play in ranked mode with fellow players who are within two ranks of your own rank. You can also play with friends who are outside of your rank. Your progress always refers to an act that lasts 2 months.

From a gameplay perspective, absolutely nothing changes in the game.

Does the rank reset if you don’t play for a long time?

No. Your rank will not be reset if you should not play for a long time. However, if you are inactive for 14 days, your rank will be hidden and will only be shown again when you play a match again.

If you have already played the ranked mode in beta, we have to inform you that your rank will not be transferred to the final game in beta. So all players start from scratch.

Why was there no ranked mode for the release?

Riot Games wanted to get all systems and servers up and running before introducing ranked mode. They also wanted to give new players who could not play the beta the chance to familiarize themselves with the game first. Otherwise, in their eyes, there could be an unfair advantage for all beta players over newcomers.
